The Junior Academy Program is intended as an introduction to competitive figure skating. Skaters must first audition for the program through the Program Director and must be 9 years of age or younger to enter the program. Team coaching, jump TECHNIQUE, spins, off-ice, theatre on ice, artistic figures, games and prizes are all in part of the Jr. Academy Program. The program combines a fun and enthusiastic atmosphere to learn the quality basics of figure skating at a young age.
From Child to Champion, our Skating Academy Program is guided by the school Director, Olympic Coach, Joanne McLeod whose formula of training has unmatched results.
Our Junior Academy program feeds into our main curriculum of Child to Champion. It has been noted as a “Role Model” program throughout Canada as it has a proven track record for success.
The professional team is carefully coordinated under Jill Marie Harvey, NCCP Level 4 Certified international coach. Jill Marie Harvey coordinates a seasonal curriculum with evaluation, events, fun days, and the Junior Academy Competition.
Throughout the skater’s time in Junior Academy, the children will learn the basic steps towards the 5 subjects: JUMPS, SPINS, STROKING, FIELD MOVEMENTS, AND MUSICALITY. The skaters are also being groomed for private lesson readiness by learning important personal skills such as discipline and how to push themselves to learn and improve and the introduction of competitive instincts.
Skating Director, Joanne McLeod will visit the class periodically throughout the year to “talent ID” the children. She will then place the children who are ready with a private coach best suitable for the child.
