Chances are good that you’ve seen our banner, seen us working out or actually taken the opportunity to pop in say hi and see the facility, while we’ve been setting up, for yourself – let me just say thank you.The community here at Twin Rinks has been amazing during our initial move in to our new facility and to those curious peepers that are checking out our workout and not quite sure what to make of us; come knock on the door, say hello and get some more info.Without going into too much detail I would like to tell you a bit about the garage and myself.
I’ve been involved in sport since I was a kid. I played hockey, ball hockey, soccer, basketball, tennis and golf growing up. At 14 though I really took to martial arts and basketball. I was on my high school basketball team in Grade 9 and 10 until, in Grade 11, football found me.
I think it odd that I’m sitting here penning a letter to Hockey and Figure Skating enthusiasts professing my love for the gridiron – probably not a genius business move but it’s an honest sentiment. Football took me through University and an Undergrad in Geography with 3 years of concentrated study in Kinesiology.
During high school and university is when I found and fell in love with the iron, Olympic lifting, sport specific training and the strength game in general. Bottom line, if it was going to make me better in football, was legal and would increase the likelihood of potentially realizing my dream of playing in the CFL someday I did it.
I’ve been working in Strength and Performance field for 20 years professionally now, since I was 17. Had it not been for the dedication and consistency in the weight room I sincerely believe that I wouldn’t have had the opportunity at 3 tryouts in the CFL, nor have had the opportunity to have been surrounded by some of the best Coaches in the industry today and would certainly not be sitting here today in my own garage gym.
What is a garage gym? What is Sailor Jack’s Barbell Garage – more to the point?
A barbell garage describes a gritty approach to training. It’s what I would describe as a “by any means necessary” approach to an athlete’s objectives.
Whatever tool will best deliver an athlete to their desired outcome is what we employ to deliver the results that our clientele have come to expect consistently from us.
More importantly though, Sailor Jack’s is an homage to my Grandfather and my fiancé’s Grandfather respectfully – both of whom served in the Canadian Forces during World War II, both of whom were named Jack coincidentally.
Using a patented Tiered system in our approach to programming we take you, the athlete, through progressions that move you from:Bodyweight: We use this phase to build a solid foundation for future programming. Here we are building your body’s capacity for work. In latter stages we use advanced techniques such as Giant and Monster sets, circuits essentially, that keep your metabolism revved up, incinerate fat and add lean tight muscle to your frame.
Unconventional and Odd Objects: Truck tires, sledgehammers,battleropes, sandbags, kettlebells, wheel barrels, strong man stones and foundational Olympic lifting movements are used in this Tier. This is where we really have some fun. The structure is High Intenisty Interval Training (HIIT) – a format popularized by CrossFit but this ain’t yo momma’s CrossFit, no no, this phase and each workout have specific training objectives.
Bodybuilding: Using dumbells and barbells this Tier is used to introduce you to accessory exercises that will make you injury proof. Here is where we use the Giant and Monster sets. Here we also start to blend Tiers and incorporate the Engine Blocks from Tier Two into our weekly plan.
Tier IV: This tier uses a popular template from the powerlifting world called the conjugate system. In all of my time training I have yet to encounter a more comprehensive method of programming. Whether you would describe yourself as an average joe or jane or you are an Elite level athlete this Tier will make anyone better.
As with Tier III, this tier is also a blended system and will incorporate Tiers II and III respectively. This is the end game. It’s my aspiration to see every client reach this level of programming.
It may seem overwhelming at first glance but trust me; once you are actually in here training, the transitions are seamless and smooth. The first step however is always the most important. Piggy Ooo’s Daycare Centre
Hello everyone, I would like to introduce myself, my name is Olivia Tran. I am the owner/operator of Piggy Ooo’s Daycare Centre which is conveniently located at the Canlan Ice Sports Langley Twin Rinks. I have been an early childhood educator for about ten years now, and was a manager at a group daycare centre out in Surrey for the past 8 years. I love my job with a passion and would not change it for anything else.
Piggy Ooo’s Daycare Centre strives for a happy, warm and comforting safe atmosphere for each child, regardless of his/her developmental stage. We are a fully licensed group daycare with highly qualified Early Childhood Educators.
Hours of Operation : Monday - Friday - 7:00am - 6:00pm
We offer full-time and part-time care with 2 programs
GROUP CARE : 3 - 5 Years Old
MULTI-AGE CARE: 10months – 5 year olds
Our Curriculum is Play-Based and will provide an Integrated Preschool Program during the day with Experiences in:

We are lucky to have the option for families to have their children register in ice skating lessons at Langley Twin Rinks while attending daycare.
