What is Showcase?
Showcase fuses artistic creativity with figure skating for single skaters, duets, small ensembles of three to seven and production numbers of eight to thirty. The focus of Showcase is on the artistic side of skating, with performances judged for theatrically and artisity from an entertainment standpoint. Skaters participating in Showcase events and competitions display their interpretative and creative skills in the depiction of a particular character or musical theme exhibited throughout their routine. Skaters will compete at local competitions throughout the session.
What is Theatre on Ice?
Theatre On Ice (TOI) is a form of competitive figure skating that is popular in Europe, where it is known as Ballet on Ice. It combines the grace of figure skating with the excitement of theatre and dance. Teams consist of between 8 to 24 skaters. They perform two programs: the choreographic exercise (CE) program and the Free Skate program. The programs are judged by U.S. Figure Skating judges and are evaluated on technical merit and presentation with emphasis on originality, costuming, artistry and musicality. Skaters, both competitive and noncompetitive, can learn and grow on a theatre on ice team.
