This program teaches young children, teenagers and adults basic skating skills following the Skate Canada CanSkate Program which is considered to be the essential basis for Figure Skating, Hockey and Speed Skating. The program intends to inspire confidence and enjoyment in skating. No skating skill is required. Through this program, children can be selected to join our pre-competitive program, Junior Academy. This is where they start the fundamentals of Competitive figure skating. Skating Year Each skating year is divided into four terms: Fall, Winter, Spring and Summer with a short break in between. New registration can be taken at any time during the
term.
Session Schedule
Each class begins with a 5 to 10 minute warm up to music allowing the skaters to come on the ice and skate following the instructions of the coach. The group class is 30 minutes. At the end we will have few minutes cool down skating then followed by 5 minute Communication Session, where the skaters will receive handouts and information for the following class.
InstructorsEach group is taught by a NCCP certified professional coach. They may be assisted by a Program Assistant when necessary. Program Assistants are volunteer coaches working within the program. Some are apprenticing to become a certified coach. They are used to demonstrate skills, assist young skaters needing special attention, and help maintain control of the group lesson.
